Custom BuildsFAQ · B-01 / B-05
What's the lead time for a custom rifle build? +

Most custom builds run 6 to 14 weeks from deposit to delivery. Timeline depends on component availability — some barrels are in stock, others are ordered per-build. WTO provides a written timeline estimate with every quote. Barrel work without a full build typically runs 1 to 4 weeks.

Do I need to bring my rifle in to get a quote? +

No. Most builds are quoted after a phone call or email exchange. Describe what you're building — caliber, intended use, action preference if you have one, and any components you already own. WTO responds with a written quote within two business days. If you're bringing an existing action for work, an in-person inspection is required before a final number is given.

What calibers does WTO work with? +

WTO works across the full range of popular precision calibers — 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, .308 Win, 6.5x47 Lapua, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, and more. WTO also chambers and loads the in-house wildcats: 7mm SAW, 25 SAW, and .25-7 PRC. If you're considering a wildcat or an unusual cartridge, call the gunsmith line to discuss feasibility.

Can WTO source components, or do I need to bring my own? +

WTO can source most components — actions, barrels, stocks, triggers, scope rails. Parts are billed at cost with no markup. You can also bring your own components if you prefer to source them yourself. If you're bringing a barrel, WTO will verify it before agreeing to chamber and fit it.

What accuracy does WTO guarantee? +

WTO doesn't publish a blanket accuracy guarantee because every build is different — barrel, chambering, stock, and ammo all affect the end result. What WTO does: every build is test-fired before delivery and the results are documented on the bench card. If the rifle doesn't shoot close to its component-rated potential, the build doesn't leave the shop until it does.

SwitchLug SystemFAQ · SL-01 / SL-04
What is the SwitchLug and how does it work? +

The SwitchLug is WTO's proprietary multi-caliber barrel exchange system. It modifies the lug geometry of a compatible bolt-action so that pre-fit barrels can be swapped by the shooter using only a torque wrench — no lathe, no gunsmith. WTO installs the system and headspaces each barrel to your specific action. After that, you can swap barrels in the field in under 10 minutes.

Which actions are compatible with the SwitchLug? +

Verified compatible actions include Defiance Deviant and Tenacity, Bighorn Origin, Badger Nucleus, and Impact ARC. Remington 700 and 700-pattern clones are evaluated case-by-case — the action typically needs to be blueprinted first. See the SwitchLug page for the full compatibility table, or call (432) 517-0592 to confirm your action.

Does each SwitchLug barrel have to be headspaced at WTO? +

Yes — every pre-fit barrel must be headspaced to your specific action at WTO. This is what guarantees the swap is safe and accurate. WTO issues a headspace verification card with each barrel. Barrels from other sources cannot be assumed to be compatible without WTO verification.

Can I run WTO wildcat calibers through the SwitchLug system? +

Yes. WTO's wildcat cartridges — 7mm SAW, 25 SAW, and .25-7 PRC — are available as SwitchLug pre-fit barrels. This is one of the more popular setups: a main hunting barrel in a standard caliber and a WTO wildcat barrel for extended-range or specialty use. Call to discuss your specific combination.

Appointments & LogisticsFAQ · L-01 / L-05
How do I schedule an appointment? +

Call either line — office at (432) 312-6132 or gunsmith at (432) 517-0592 — Tuesday through Friday. You can also email Texasordnance@hotmail.com to initiate. The showroom at 2511 US Hwy 380, Brownfield is open by appointment. Walk-ins are not guaranteed to be seen, especially for extended consults.

Does WTO accept FFL transfers? +

Yes. WTO is a licensed FFL dealer and accepts transfers from other FFLs. The transfer fee is $35 per firearm. Call (432) 312-6132 before having a firearm shipped to confirm the transfer and get WTO's current FFL information to provide to the sending dealer. Transfers are processed by appointment.

Can WTO ship completed work back to me? +

Yes. Completed firearms and parts can be shipped back to your local FFL for pickup, or directly to you if it's non-firearm work (barrels, components, parts). For long-gun transfers, you'll need an FFL in your area. WTO can handle all the shipping paperwork on the outbound side — just let us know at quote time if you need ship-back service.

Is a deposit required to start a build? +

Yes. A deposit is required before WTO begins sourcing components or scheduling bench time. The deposit amount is included in the written quote. The balance is due on pickup or before ship-back. Deposits are non-refundable after components are ordered.

How far do customers travel to WTO? +

WTO serves customers from across the South Plains, West Texas, and Eastern New Mexico — Lubbock, Midland, Amarillo, Odessa, and beyond. Many customers ship rifles in from other states specifically for SwitchLug installation or wildcat chambering work. Distance is rarely a barrier — WTO handles the logistics for customers who can't make the drive.
